We seek to worship God in the beauty of holiness, to welcome all people in Christ’s name and to work in the Spirit of goodness and truth for justice and peace in the world
Our worship is centred on the Eucharist, an encounter with God in word and in sacrament, celebrated in the inspiring 12-century surroundings of St Margaret’s Church, Crossgate.
Discover us within in the green space of St Margaret’s Churchyard, close to the river in the city centre, among the houses, shops and cafés of Crossgate by Framwellgate Bridge.
As part of the Inclusive Church network, we seek to welcome all to St Margaret’s, regardless of gender, race, age, abilities or sexual orientation.

In 2022 the Archbishop encouraged every parish church to take part in the Church of England “Living in Love and Faith” course.
Following this a large cross section of the congregation at St Margaret’s proposed that we should join the Inclusive Church network

St Margaret’s CE (Controlled) Primary School
We are privileged to have strong links with our local Church School. The Rector regularly leads collective worship in the school and at the end of every term the entire school comes to Church for a service.
St Margaret’s Centre
St Margaret’s Centre (SMC) is an activity and training hub for adults in County Durham who need support with their mental wellbeing, based in the Old School House next door to the churchyard on Margery Lane, providing a safe, therapeutic environment for people to regain their confidence, motivation and self-esteem while learning new skills (especially arts and crafts) and meeting new friends.
SMC has charitable status, and a board of trustees oversees the strategy, funding and safeguarding aspects of its work., in support of the Centre manager and staff.
